American · Bulleit
Bulleit puts about a third rye in the mash, where most bourbon uses a tenth. Rye brings pepper and dry spice, so this is the sharp end of the bourbon shelf.

The one thing that matters
That spice is exactly what you want against sugar and bitters. A Bulleit old fashioned is drier and more savoury than one made with a wheated bourbon, and it does not get cloying.
It is one of the best value choices. The high rye content brings pepper that cuts through the sugar, so the drink stays dry instead of turning sweet halfway down.
Bourbon must be at least 51% corn. The rest is usually a small amount of rye plus malted barley. High rye means a bigger share of rye, which adds pepper and a drier finish.
