1800 Margarita

1800 Silver is a blend of tequilas rested separately and then married, which is unusual for a silver. The result is rounder and a little softer than most blancos, with less of the raw agave bite.

Ingredients

  • 1800 Tequila Silver 750ml
  • 1 oz orange liqueur (triple sec or Cointreau)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice, about one lime
  • Kosher salt for the rim
  • Ice

Method

  1. Run a lime wedge around the outside of the glass rim, then roll it in salt on a plate. Salt the outside only, so none falls into the drink.
  2. Fill a shaker with ice. Add the tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice.
  3. Shake hard for about twelve seconds, until the shaker frosts over.
  4. Strain into the glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wheel.

The one thing that matters

That softness makes it forgiving. If you are making a pitcher for people who do not drink much tequila, this is the one that will not frighten anybody.

Questions

Is 1800 a good margarita tequila?

It is one of the safest choices. 1800 Silver is softer than most blancos, so it suits a crowd and it mixes without any sharp edges. We also stock 1800's own bottled margarita if you would rather not measure anything.

What is the difference between 1800 Silver and Reposado?

Silver goes straight from the still to the bottle. Reposado rests in oak for a few months and picks up vanilla and spice. For a margarita, silver. For sipping, reposado.
